However, aside from his Lowcountry pace, he manages to be the brains behind the tomfoolery in our household. He is constantly masterminding shenanigans, while instigating unapproved doggie devilment in our youngest pup — behind the scenes — while we are away. We’re convinced they have their own “secret life of pets” language at all times. Humans: Tami and Karl Zerbst “This puppy was so ugly, no one wanted her. Out of a litter of seven, she was the last puppy that no one wanted. She’d been with her mother for a while when I stopped to visit a friend and saw the most beautiful dog I have ever seen. I did not want a puppy at the time, but the owners insisted she was going to the pound on Monday morning. After many “nos,” I finally went back to pick her up on Sunday evening. She has been a piece of work ever since and has become the love of my life.” U El Breed: black Lab Humans: Scott and Susan Spann “Named “El” after a main character from the hit Netflix show “Stranger Things,” our vivacious Lab is not only very loving and energetic — as are most puppies — her sweetest quality is how amazingly intuitive she is. If one of us in the family feels bad, sad or sick, she will quite literally lay her head wherever we are hurting and not leave our side. Tum- my ache? Her head will remain there. Crying? She assumes the role of “small spoon” almost immediately. She is truly a completion to our family and is the most precious angel, watching over us all.”
