Before you head out, pay heed to dog laws, rules and etiquette that apply East of the Cooper to save yourself and your pup the grief of a dog-park spat or even a ticket. DOG PARK LAWS AND “PETIQUETTE” By Colin McCandless • Local dog parks, such as Rifle Range Dog Park, Park West, Palmetto Islands County Park or Bark Park Dog Park on Isle of Palms, allow dogs to be off-leash within the fenced-in park area, but they must be leashed at all times outside the park. • All dogs must have current rabies vaccinations and wear tags. • You must clean up after your dog and properly dispose of waste in the on-site containers. • No more than two dogs per person are allowed on any one visit. • Owners must have one leash per dog at all times. • Puppies under 4 months old are not permitted in the park. • Aggressive dogs and female dogs in heat are prohibited. • Dog owners must be 18 or older. • Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. • There is no smoking, eating or drinking in the park. • Do not bring dog treats into the dog park. • At the Bark Park, resident IOP dogs must have and wear current city license tags. • Owners are responsible for any injury or damage caused by their dog and are fully responsible for their dog’s and their own actions. For more rules of proper “petiquette,” go to https://www.ccprc.com/1514/Petiquette. • At Isle of Palms County Park, pets must be leashed at all times behind the beachfront.
